THE CLONE WARS #101

Cartoon:  S05E1, Prod. #426
Aired: Cartoon Network, September 29, 2012
Director: Steward Lee
Script: Chris Collins
Continuity: First in the season five Darth Maul arc. The death of Adi Gallia differs from the one depicted in Obsession, reinforcing the notion that the Clone Wars multimedia project is overwritten, not supplemented, by the canonical television series. (Though one could argue that perhaps Obi-Wan only thought she was dead in this episode, and she meets her true fate in Obsession, or vice versa, it seems an unlikely fix. It’s less problematic than Even Piell’s death, though.)

THE CLONE WARS: THE LOST MISSIONS

Cartoon:  S06E1, Prod. #512
Aired: Netflix, March 7, 2014
Director: Bosco Ng
Script: Katie Lucas
Continuity: As funny as the line about experiencing drag in the vacuum of space was, the irony is that while the writers were attempting to call their own bluff, it’s still inaccurate. You really wouldn’t experience drag in the vacuum of space.
Placement: Admiral Trench has resurfaced, partially cybernetic after the explosion in “Cat and Mouse.”
Ruminations: A space station that rings an entire planet, much like Ringworld. But it adds to the idea that there are more impressive space stations than the Death Star. Apparently it was not the size of the Death Star, but its weapons capacity, that made it unique. (See notes on Centerpoint Station.)

THE CLONE WARS

Cartoon:  Prod. #601
Released: September 25, 2014
Director: Steward Lee
Script: Daniel Arkin
Timeline: 20 B.B.Y. (3632 A.T.C.)
Ruminations: How long was Padme pregnant, anyway? She looked pretty svelte for a petite woman bearing twins, but when the trauma of being Force-choked by her child-murdering husband causes her premature delivery, Luke and Leia looked pretty healthy and normal-sized (perhaps even slightly over-large—no movie has ever portrayed a realistic birth, probably for very good reasons). So was she pregnant for five months? Six? Nine? I am going to assume 8-9 months for sheer viability, but we will probably never know. At any rate, there is a definite time gap between “Sacrifice” and “A Death on Utapau,” so I am going to assume that the Outer Rim Sieges begin sometime around here, and that Anakin has not seen Padme since “Sacrifice.” I am inclined to think that there were a couple of likely events surrounding the twins’ conception. The first would be the return of Rush Clovis, and the second would be the loss of Ahsoka Tano.

EVASIVE ACTION
REVERSAL OF FORTUNE

Writer: Paul Ens
Synopsis: Barriss Offee is a full-fledged Jedi Knight, and seemingly back in action. This was obviously written prior to the final arcs of The Clone Wars, where she turned traitor. The only thing that works in this story still working at all is the fact that Barriss was once under the influence of brain parasites (after the second Battle of Geonosis), so it’s possible that when she was incarcerated, it was discovered that the exposure had somehow damaged her judgment center, and she was given some sort of curative treatment.
